UJC: A Case Study

Logo, branding, & print

Urban Justice Center

branding / digital marketing / print design

I am the graphic designer of the executive office at Urban Justice Center, which serves New York City's most vulnerable residents through a combination of direct legal service, systemic advocacy, community education and political organizing. My work includes digital promotion, event collateral, logo re-design, and printed materials for ongoing programming for the organization, including the Young Professional Network and the UJC Speaker Series.

2018 Social Justice Accelerator Campaign

ART DIRECTION / WEB DESIGN / GRAPHIC DESIGN

In August 2018, the Urban Justice Center announced the Social Justice Accelerator, a program that will help turn up to five groundbreaking ideas for social justice advocacy into fully-functioning, independent organizations, via a two-year incubation period. I was responsible for an eye-catching social media campaign to entice applicants to apply and spread the word to eligible candidates.

2017 Digital Annual Report

WEB DESIGN / LIGHT CODING & MARKDOWN / VIDEO EDITING

Along with the organization's usual end-of-year mailing, I proposed to my team that we make the success stories of our organizations digitally available for the general public and prospective  donors. I put together a short background combining footage of the Urban Justice Center's employees, clients, and locations to set the stage of the report's message. The site continues to be viewed by hundreds of unique visitors after its initial end-of-year debut. Please click the image below to access the website.

Safety Net Project Logo Re-Design

LOGO / COLOR SCHEME / WEB COLORS

The Director of the Safety Net Project (SNP), Scott Wagner, approached me to help him create a new logo and brand color scheme for his project. The initial dark brown color and ambiguous net felt dated and didn't associate strongly enough with clients who were seeking assistance for facets of the city's safety net (obtaining SNAP benefits, housing vouchers, etc.). Together, we devised a more personable logo accompanied with tones of blue and green for the color scheme that would symbolize security, community, and empowerment.

Corrections Accountability Project Logo Design

branding / logo

When the Urban Justice Center announced a new project's arrival in April 2017, among the first orders of business was creating a visual identity for the project's branding. With the Project Director, Bianca Tylek, I developed a series of potential color palettes and visual symbols that would help audiences associate the project's mission to dismantle privatization in public prisons. Through a series of trial and error, we landed on a royal purple lead color with a freed caged bird, echoing the bars of and the freedom involved with de-incentivizing prison investment.

UJC Speaker Series

digital marketing / print design

Since 2015, the Urban Justice Center has provided free seasonal panels on topics ranging from the international refugee crisis, virtual reality's role in social justice, re-entry initiatives for previously incarcerated individuals, and more. I have provided digital banners, event brochures, signage, step & repeat, and light copywriting for the Speaker Series' wide array of topics.
